Testimonials Jan was instrumental in helping us get our son into the college of his dreams!
Last fall, when our oldest started his senior year of high school, my husband and I quickly realized we were in over our heads trying to help him with his college search. Jan was referred to me by a friend and we made an appointment to meet with her right away. From the moment we sat down with her to discuss Blake's college options I knew we were in good hands. She talked to the three of us in detail about what qualities he was looking for in a school and set to work finding him some colleges that met his criteria. She met with Blake on several occasions to help him think through the essay & application process. Jan explained everything to us in detail from financial aid to making the final decision on which college Blake should attend. We successfully navigated the application process and thought we were home free, when an unexpected financial crisis hit us head on. Jan was with us the entire way, guiding us on how to inform the colleges Blake had applied to of our special circumstances. It was a very stressful couple of months and without Jan's reassurance I may have thrown my hands in the air in defeat. However in the 11th hour on April 30th, Blake's first choice school came back with a generous offer that made his college dreams a reality. I know, without a doubt, that if Jan had not been there to hold our hands through this trying time Blake would not be attending such a prestigious school. I can not begin to express our gratitude to her. Tears come to my eyes when I look back at how far we have come because she was by our side every step of the way.

Testimonials
Testimonials Unwavering support and enthusiasm
The most valuable aspect of the relationship that Jan offered to our family was that of being an objective observer and third party who came to know the strengths and challenges of my child. She was able to combine that understanding with an ability to match her vast knowledge base with the best possible college choices that would align with both my son's wishes and dreams, as well as his particular profile. Having her in that position relieved the pressure from our own parent-child relationship. It allowed my son to have someone who truly had his best interests at heart, but who also knew how to offer him a variety of possibilities to choose from, ranging from the “reach” schools to the safety schools. I was amazed to see how he opened up to her and was so receptive to her suggestions and advice. Jan has a gift to inspire and support, while maintaining an air of reality and practicality. Her unwavering enthusiasm and support of him was invaluable. It was like having a life-coach guiding us along as we navigated the uncharted waters of college preparations and investigations.

Testimonials
Testimonials Helped navigate the process successfully
As the oldest child in my family, I don’t have an older sibling or cousin to model how the college application process should be navigated. Ever since my freshman year, I dreaded it, assuming it to be only laborious and stressful. In addition, I only knew about three colleges, and had a foggy understanding of where I might thrive. However, Jan quickly brought me up to date on the colleges on the West Coast. She helped me to discover that what I really wanted was a small, individualized learning environment. And when I struggled with my first few essays, Jan coached me on how to articulate what I wanted to say to the schools of my dreams. I'm not going to lie, parts of the college application process were laborious and stressful. But Jan minimized those parts, and helped make the process almost entirely pain-free, even enjoyable. Looking back, I believe that the college application process should be, above all, an exciting time for high school students to process their experiences in school, and to think about what they want from the future. With Jan, I got just that.

We signed on with Jan when our daughter Isobel entered her junior year at Ashland High School. For different reasons, her dad and I both felt uncertain in our ability to be very effective assistants to the college application process. Her dad, because everything has changed since 1983 and me because I did this whole process in another country AND in the 1980's! After the first meeting we were able to allow Isobel to be in charge of her own experience. We became listeners and advocates. Jan was the person she turned to. As the process of submitting 8 college applications unfolded, our level of stress and anxiety was minimal. We could trust the job had been done well and the rest would fall as it may. We are thrilled that Isobel got into 7 of the 8 colleges she applied for and is going to the one she is not only most excited about, but also gave her a great financial package. Next up? Our son, Theo, who will be a junior in the fall.
Thank you Jan!

Testimonials More than a college consultant
Jan is more then a college consultant; she is a friend and a mentor. I worked with her as a high school senior and again as a transfer student. When I decided that my original college was not a good fit for me, Jan was there to help. Her wealth of knowledge, patience, and enthusiasm twice helped me through an overwhelming application process. The feedback I received was constructive and gave me confidence when it came time to hit the submission button. When the letters came in, she was there to talk and work through the decision making process. I have had two wonderful experiences with Jan and would recommend her to any high school senior or transfer student. Thank you Jan for helping me find Kenyon and for the countless emails and edits.

My family and I were truly in the dark when it came to college. As the first in my family to pursue a higher education, I had no idea where to start. From the first meeting with Jan, she was ready to get down to business, which was great because there’s no time to waste when it comes to planning for college! Jan definitely knows what she is doing . She is very efficient, yet comforting and really wants to find a school that fits your personality and academic interests. I am so thankful to have had Jan help me with my college search. I would never have thought I could attend a private school, but Jan’s support made me believe in myself. Thank you so much, Jan!! Thanks for believing in me. I am truly grateful.

Jan was a gift to me in my time of "freak-out." She was thorough, dedicated, and grounded. She knew what was possible for me to achieve. At the same time, her smiling face gave me the strength and confidence to reach further than I normally would have. I am so grateful for her help and would strongly recommend her to anyone in "freak-out" mode! (or any phase of the college search, really.)
